Writing Workshops is a new series of creative writing sessions that provide students with the techniques, tools and skill sets necessary to launch oneself into the field of writing. Our classes are held in Rutherford, each class taught by a professional writer. Our workshops are suitable for writers at any level of expertise and experience.
Our workshops are taught in small classroom environments with a total limit of 15 students per session. Participants could include freelance poets, English literature majors, college-bound students, and independent writers. At this time, we offer the following workshops:
Writing as Self-Discovery
Everyone has a story inside of them or a part of themselves they wish to better understand, or explore more deeply. Everyone has a unique voice inside of them, waiting to be heard. Gainville’s Writing as Self-Discovery course is the first step in learning how to transform your life’s experiences into words on the page. Find the stories and the voice that best inform who you are and learn the good writing habits and strategies that will best help you to express them.
Students learn how to write a cohesive essay that communicates pertinent candidate information while using a compelling and strategic approach which aligns student’s strengths and career interests with that of the target institution.

Introduction to Creative Writing
Students learn fun and innovative poetic, narrative and fiction writing techniques that will have them writing their own poems, stories-even their own song lyrics- in no time. Express yourself, and at the same time expand your powers of observation, imagination, and language in a safe and supportive workshop environment.
Research Paper Power
Students build their writing, research and study skills-and raise their English grades at the same time!-with this fun and focused approach to creating organized and highly-polished research papers. Learn essential academic writing techniques such as generating topics, developing thesis statements, building integrated and fully developed supporting paragraphs, and proper essay structure
